Seven simple ways to dress better

Learning how to dress better can seem like a difficult thing to do, but you can take a few simple steps to elevate your dressing style and personal style-

1. Take another moment to style the outfit

After you get dressed, take a moment to style it all the way. For example closing and folding the shirt sleeves properly, tucking the shirt into your trousers in a stylish way and creating a sort of blouse, removing all cat/dog hair from your clothes, making sure the seams of the garment are in the right place - the shoulder seams are on the shoulders and the side seams sit in the right line and nothing is warped or Stuck in an uncomfortable position.

Before leaving the house, always take a moment to take one last look at yourself in the mirror. You can move away from the mirror and then move closer again to check yourself (it helps!)

2. Balance between the upper and lower part of the body

The intention is to create a proper balance between your clothes on the top half of your body and the bottom half of your body. Correct balance can often be a difficult thing to master, so don't worry if you don't get it right away. I will give you some examples

First and central rule -

If you wear a flared skirt or pants at the bottom, you should aim to pair them with a tight top. If you wear them with a big shirt you can also look like you are 'drowning' in your clothes.

And if you wear a wide or oversized top, combine it with a narrow and tight bottom, or emphasize the narrow waist with a belt.

You should always consider your body type when balancing from top to bottom.

For example, if your body shape is an upside-down triangle (you're bigger on top than bottom), you might not feel your best when you wear puffy shoulder tops with skinny jeans. This is because the puffy shoulder top puts more emphasis on the upper half of the body.

With that said, I strongly believe in wearing whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident, and if it goes against the 'rules of style' then go for it! Confidence is a key part of style.

3. The 3 colors rule

To ensure a cohesive outfit, use no more than 3 colors only. It can also be with those last items of clothing like shoes or jackets. When I feel stuck, I remember the 3 color rule, and it always helps me.

The three colors can also include shades of the same color. For example, you can combine two shades of blue in your outfit plus two additional colors and it will still count towards the 3 color rule.

4. Accessories

Accessories have a huge impact on your style and final outfit. Sometimes when we are in a hurry we can forget about them, but I would suggest if you want to dress better, try to get used to always combining accessories. I would recommend finding yourself some classic and simple everyday accessories that go with everything in your wardrobe. For example, small gold hoop earrings, a large colorful statement necklace, timeless sunglasses, a lucky stone necklace, etc.

Consider your skin tone when choosing jewelry.

5. Match the colors in your outfit

Try to make beautiful and interesting color matches in your clothing. One of the ways to get inspired is to jump on Pinterest and look for an outfit with the colors you intend to wear. If the search results come back without a good variety of outfits with those colors, that's a red flag! You can also research the specific items you have in your wardrobe, and get to know what colors work well with them. For example, if you have a purple cardigan that you like to wear, search Pinterest for 'purple cardigan outfit' or 'purple cardigan street style'

Research which colors suit your skin tone

Knowing what colors suit your skin tone is also a great way to dress better. Some colors can make your eyes sparkle and others can make you look bad. Take the time to explore which colors flatter you and make your skin and eyes pop. You can ask someone you trust for help, spend some time with you going through the colors in your wardrobe, hold them against your skin, and check which colors flatter you and which ones don't do you justice, and which ones to avoid from now on.

6. Plan your outfit the night before

Planning your outfits in advance is the best way to ensure you dress better. This means you can actually take your time to put together the perfect outfits, instead of rushing before you leave the house. And after a while, planning outfits will also teach you a lot more about style and fashion, and you'll end up dressing better in general.

7. Make sure your closet is organized

If you want to dress better, it's important that you know what's really in your wardrobe.

It seems like a small matter but it is not! An organized closet ensures that you know exactly what you have and what you don't have. You know what your options are. An organized closet will help you buy the right things in the future. The more you know about your wardrobe the better your shopping habits will be. In the end, buy things that match the other items that already exist in your wardrobe.
